Inaugural Meeting of the “International Studies” Section of the Austrian Political Science Association

Order and Change in International Relations

Call for Contributions

Explaining the emergence of order and its change through violent and peaceful means has been at the core of International Studies since their very beginning. In recent years, issues such as challenges to the US-dominated world order, the resilience and crisis of the neoliberal economic order, or challenges to the European security order have attracted the interest of scholars in the discipline and beyond.

The International Studies Section of the Austrian Political Science Association invites contributions on this topic of order and change for its inaugural meeting on 16-17 December 2016 in Innsbruck. Contributions may address (but are not limited to) any of the following questions: What is the state of conceptualizing order in the discipline? What are sources of order in international relations?
How do agents challenge, change, or reinforce international orders? How can we conceptualize change? How do different orders interact with each other?
In addition to two thematic panels, the inaugural meeting will also include an open debate on the future activities and orientation of the newly established section.

The section speakers invite all Austria-based scholars (including PhD-students) working on questions of international relations to participate in this meeting and to jointly shape the future of the section.
